Your Union Stewards

Your first line of defense and support in the workplace.

What is a Union Steward?

A steward is a coworker in your workplace who has volunteered to be a trained representative for our union. They are the backbone of our local, serving as the primary link between members, management, and our union leadership. Stewards are not outside officials; they are your colleagues who are dedicated to ensuring our contract is respected and our rights are protected.

What Can a Steward Do For You?

Your steward is your first point of contact for any questions or problems you may have at work. They are trained to help with a wide range of issues, including:

  • Answering Questions: Help you understand your rights under our Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Contract Enforcement: Ensure management is following the rules of our contract.
  • Representation: Represent you in investigatory meetings with management that could lead to discipline (your Weingarten Rights).
  • Problem Solving: Help you resolve workplace conflicts or issues with your supervisor informally.
  • Filing Grievances: Guide you through the formal grievance process if an issue cannot be resolved informally.
  • Organizing: Keep you informed about union activities and help organize coworkers to build power in the workplace.

How to Contact a Steward

If you have a question, are facing a workplace issue, or have been called into a meeting with your supervisor, don't hesitate to reach out. You can contact the Steward Council directly via email.

You can reach out at any time. The more information and documentation you can provide (like emails, dates, and names), the better your steward can assist you.
