How the executive committee works

Local 083 bylaws establish six officer roles. Together, those officers make up the executive committee and conduct business affecting the membership.

01PresidentPresides over meetings, acts as spokesperson and appoints committees with executive committee counsel.
02Vice PresidentPerforms presidential duties when needed and assists with membership and communication work.
03SecretaryRecords and maintains minutes for Local 083 and executive committee meetings.
04TreasurerMaintains financial records, processes disbursements under our bylaws and reports on Local 083 finances.
05Chief StewardLeads contract enforcement, supports stewards and coordinates grievances and representation.

Workplace representation

Stewards help enforce the contract.

Union stewards are trained coworkers who answer contract questions, represent workers in qualifying meetings, help resolve workplace problems and guide grievances. The chief steward leads the Steward Council.

Local 083 officer elections are held every two years under our bylaws. Terms begin May 1 of even-numbered years.

What is the difference between an officer and a steward?

Officers conduct Local 083 governance and executive committee business. Stewards focus on contract enforcement, workplace support and representation.

Who speaks officially for Local 083?

The bylaws identify the president as spokesperson for the local. Public inquiries should be sent to the shared executive team address.

How long do elected officers serve?

Local 083 bylaws establish two-year officer terms beginning May 1 of even-numbered years.

Can members become stewards or run for office?

The bylaws state that members in good standing may volunteer to become stewards. Election eligibility and procedures are described in the Local 083 bylaws.
