A purple background with silhouettes of raised fists. In the center is an illustrated cluster of Oregon university mascots including a duck, beaver, viking, and owl. Text reads "Higher Education Bargaining 2026: Together in Solidarity."

Bargaining is about collective power. When we’re on a Zoom call, we don’t have a picket line or a sea of purple shirts—but we can still show unity in a way that’s visible, respectful, and easy.

Why your Zoom background matters

  • Signals solidarity: A shared visual shows we’re organized and backing our bargaining team.
  • Keeps the focus on the contract: It reduces distractions and makes the meeting feel more “union” than “random video call.”
  • Protects your privacy: A background can keep your home or workspace out of view.
  • Builds momentum: Small actions add up—especially when many members do them together.

A quick ask

If you’re attending a bargaining-related Zoom session, please consider turning on your background ahead of time. Workers are required to remain muted during bargaining sessions; staying on mute helps preserve our bargaining privilege throughout negotiations. If you’re not able to use video, that’s okay—participation and support matter in many ways. The goal is to make sure members feel included and our shared message is clear.
